About Vassar Robotics
Summary
Vassar Robotics builds gearbox-free robotic arms for robot learning, replacing conventional gear-driven joints with transverse-flux direct-drive actuators. The design eliminates backlash, stiction, speed caps, and wear drift from every joint, giving robotics developers cleaner demonstration data and actuators whose behavior a simulator can accurately model. The arms are aimed at researchers and teams training home robot policies, removing the need to work around gearbox artifacts in collected data and sim-to-real transfer.
Go-to-market
Robotics developers and research teams acquire the hardware directly, with a developer kit model intended to support broad, open adoption across teams building home autonomy systems.
From the Y Combinator listing
Open-source semi-humanoid dev kit → home data → autonomy → 20h/wk
We build home humanoids the practical way—an open, mass-produced developer kit powering a real-home teleop data flywheel to autonomy, giving families back 20 hours/week.
