About Lux Foods
Summary
Lux Foods engineers ultra-compact, fruit-dominant tomato plants that grow on sugar under minimal light, replacing conventional greenhouse and field farming. The plants are propagated through asexual cloning and cultivated in robotic vessel systems, removing sunlight, pesticides, and seasonal constraints from production. The result is year-round cherry tomato output sited close to urban consumers, with biology and robotic workflow designed together so the system scales by replicating a standardized unit.
Go-to-market
Lux Foods targets food buyers directly, with a meeting-request flow on its site indicating a sales-led approach to early customer relationships.
From the Y Combinator listing
Crops engineered for premium fruit, grown without sunlight.
Lux Foods engineers ultra-compact plants that produce mostly fruit, then grows them on sugar with 90% less light. We design the biology and hardware together to make robotic farming easier. Starting with cherry tomatoes, we’re building year-round production of flavorful, nutritious, pesticide-free fruit near the people who eat it. Our tomatoes have been grown on the International Space Station, and now we're taking this technology to Earth.
