The GP Agent Audit Trail Checklist
What every fund agent should log before it touches deal, portfolio, LP, or public marketing records.
A GP agent audit trail is the record of what the agent read, what it changed, why it changed it, and which human review gate applies. Funds need this because agent output can affect deal judgment, portfolio support, LP reporting, and public reputation.
- Log the source artifact for every extracted fact.
- Log the target record and field changed.
- Log the agent role and run id.
- Separate draft work from canonical writes.
- Require human approval for outreach, LP communication, and investment calls.
The agent role matters
A sourcing agent, portfolio analyst, and brand strategist should not all have the same write surface. The audit trail should show which role acted because the permission boundary follows the job.
If the wrong role updates the wrong record, that is a product bug, not just a messy log.
Source links make review possible
The GP should be able to click from a claim back to the email, deck, transcript, or page that produced it. Without that link, the claim becomes a model assertion.
That is not enough for fund work.
Drafts and canonical writes are different
An agent can draft an LP paragraph. That does not mean the paragraph belongs in the sent update. An agent can suggest a pass reason. That does not mean the company is passed.
Audit trails should label the state clearly:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Prepared by an agent, not accepted yet |
| Proposed | Ready for GP review |
| Accepted | Human or policy approved |
| Rejected | Kept for history, not used |
Where GPAgent fits
GPAgent is built around source-grounded agent work and human-owned decisions. The audit trail is what lets a lean fund use agents without losing control of the record.
FAQ
What should never be silent?
External outreach, LP communication, investment decisions, permission changes, and public posts.
Is a transcript enough evidence?
It can be, but the extracted claim should still point to the relevant source and context.
Why not let agents update everything automatically?
Because fund work mixes facts, judgment, and relationships. Agents can prepare facts and drafts. The GP decides what becomes true for the firm.
