Summary
Synapse Semiconductor builds vision sensors that run neural network filters directly inside the camera pixels, eliminating the need to ship raw image data to a separate GPU. Each transistor on the chip is co-located with high-bandwidth memory that is also light-sensitive, collapsing the traditional camera-to-GPU-to-memory pipeline into a single layer. The target application is physical AI and robotics systems that require machines to perceive and interact with the world without the compute overhead of conventional camera architectures.

Their focus is on solving physical AI challenges from the semiconductor device level and building products around the moat of impossible to copy innovation.
